Download the poster here Henry Olonga, a former Zimbabwean international test cricketer, made his international debut in 1995, becoming the youngest player to represent Zimbabwe. A right arm fast bowler, Olonga became the first black cricketer to play for Zimbabwe. Olonga made international headlines (along with team mate Andy Flower) in 2003 by wearing a black armband in a Cricket World Cup match to protest against the policies of Zimbabwe's government, lead by Robert Mugabe. This act led to a warrant issued in Zimbabwe for his arrest on charges of treason (which still carries the death penatly in Zimbabwe) and forced him to retire from international cricket and temporarily go into hiding. Henry has a superb voice and is an emerging tenor whose long participation in arts festivals and musical theatre productions such as 'Annie Get Your Gun' and 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat', gave him a good musical foundation. His singing career kicked off in Zimbabwe with chart-topping Number One hits such as 'Our Zimbabwe' and 'After All'. Henry has recently completed recording a full contemporary pop album with one of the UK's top producers, Robbie Bronnimann.
The event will allow for members of the audience to ask Henry Olonga questions as well as to hear stories about Henry's life and career. There will also be a chance to hear Henry sing many of his amazing songs. CDs will be on sale at this event. Buy your ticket today!
