Carol Forrest has been going to India to share the love of Jesus for about 3 years now. Here is her report on her latest trip (Feb 2010):
The first Sunday saw us having a prayer service at 8 o’clock with the boys. After this we travelled to a prayer house in a village about 6km away for a morning service, and again in the evening where 40 children put on a programme of singing, Bible sketches and dancing. After this Ruth and I gave out new plates for those children attending the Sunday School regularly; this was followed by everyone being fed. We were able to take the 28 boys from the orphanage out in two minibuses to visit a paper mill. We all really enjoyed watching the process from chopping and pulping the wood or material to the finished rolls of paper. We then had a picnic of rice and curry, followed by walking up 210 steps to the top of a dam from where the view was amazing. We finished the day in a roadside café, eating chicken and parota. We took the 18 girls on a shopping trip to a big store, where each of them could choose a new outfit. They were all very excited and this was the first time that they had been to a large shop and chosen clothes for themselves. With the money that people had kindly given me to take, I was able to buy the girls and the boys a new bible each. Some of the money was used to sponsor a child for a year and I was also able to pay for all the girls’ clothes. We also spent time with the elderly ladies. One of the ladies was not at all well when we arrived. We prayed for her on several occasions and, after the fours days that we were there, she was able to sit up for a short while with a smile on her face.
We visited the kindergarten in the village, which is near the prayer house. This small building has 45 children between the ages of 2 and 5. They are there all day, from 8.30 till 5 and are looked after by two ladies. It was lovely to see the faces of the children as we gave them some small and larger balls and bats. Each child was also given a new plate. There were no toys in the building, only some posters on the wall. The new nursery school at Deredin in north India has ten children attending. They are in two rented rooms until the new building is ready. The building work has now started and it is hoped that it will be completed by October. This will then be able to take children from nursery, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades. This work is being done by John and David’s brother, Emmanuel, and his wife, Minnie. Please pray for this work, that as the people see the work they are doing with the children, they will be open to the gospel. Newsletter
